Distribution: Widespread and numerous
Habitat: Characteristic of floodplains, dominant on oxbows, rivers and open stretches of streams. Also lakes and a wide range of man-made habitats such as canals, gravel-pits and fish-ponds; the larvae are well adapted to occur with fish (Dijkstra, 2006). For the study area typical habitats are rivers, floodplains, and oxbows.
