Distribution: Widespread and common, but less abundant than I. elegans
Habitat: Recently created habitats with sparse vegetation (for instance, in quarries) can harbour huge populations, but the species can also be found on a wide variety of sites, such as small or temporary ponds (also nutrient-poor and acidic ones), springs and ditches (Dijkstra, 2006). In SW Ukraine often found in shallow pools in meadows.
